Guest Teachers

Jeffery Armstrong

For the last ten years Jeffrey has been teaching the Vedic knowledge full time. He has developed a full curriculum of seminars available in CD format on the Vedic knowledge including: the Ramayana, the Mahabharata, the Bhagavad‐gita, the Puranas, the Yoga Sutras, Vedanta, and the Upanishads. He has thousands of students in the West who are learning the Vedic/Hindu Sanatan Dharma. In addition, Jeffrey travels internationally to major universities, ashrams and corporations as well as to yoga and health spa conferences, teaching about the Vedic culture. He is also an award winning author and mystical poet.

Mia Kalef, DC

Mia has been a student of yoga since 1992. Her career as a Chiropractor and Craniosacral Therapist has made it her joy to incorporate the principles of Energetic Medicine into movement, anatomy and physiology. Using the perspective that the body is an articulate communicator about our health and well being, she has worked with families and adults since 1998, helping them decode their unique ‘body-languages’. Her organization, Emerging Families, supports people to resolve the effects of challenging prenatal, birth and first-year-of-life experiences as well as sparks community conversations about the Perinatal Period. Mia also engages in scientific research and is the author of The Secret Life of Babies: An Exploration of Infant Consciousness.

Dharm Kaur Khalsa BSc., RYT, Senior Yoga Teacher

For 24 years, Dharm Kaur has taught yoga, philosophy, spirituality and consciousness. Her passion for teaching began in 1979 as a CUSO volunteer in Nigeria at a girl’s secondary school. Teaching all aspects of the yogic path became her life work after studying with the late Master Yogi Bhajan, and pioneered Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training in Vancouver. In 1989, Dharm Kaur co-founded Yoga West in Kitsilano, one of the first yoga centres in Vancouver and led the Teacher Training Program there for 17 years. She offers advanced teacher training in pre- and post-natal yoga as well as conscious education for children.

Madhuri

Before embarking on her first journey to India in 2000, Madhuri received her BFA in contemporary Dance from SFU. She was influenced greatly by her in-depth studies, living for 5 months at The Bihar School of Yoga, the world's first Yoga University where she was under the direct guidance of Swami Niranjananda Saraswati. Madhuri is currently the co-director of 'Indigo Yoga & Holistic Healing' where she teaches Yoga, Ayurveda, Meditation, and Chanting. She is an Ayurvedic Body Therapist and Ayurvedic Health Educator, receiving certification from the California College of Ayurveda under Dr. Mark Halpern (D.C., C.A.S, P.K.S.). Madhuri has taught yoga locally and internationally to all levels of students and brings a deep understanding and awareness to her teaching practice.

Ryan Smith, BSc., CFRE (in Progress)

Ryan is the President of the Yoga Association of BC and works full time with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in the Development department. He has practiced yoga since 1997 and has studied Classical Ashtanga, Hatha Yoga, and Tibetan Buddhism. Ryan’s passion is involving key stakeholders in dialogue to develop new collaborative relationships, wherein he has contributed to many non-profit, government and corporate organizations to advance their communications processes, bringing principles of yoga into business. Ryan is completing the BCIT Fundraising Management Program, working towards the Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation. He completed a Physics degree from the University of Victoria in 2001, and through this experience worked on projects with the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, CREO (now Kodak), German Center for Cancer Research in Heidelberg, and the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center.
