Unique Qualities of the Langara College CST Certificate Program
- Ongoing mentoring and supervision: You must complete 125 CST healing sessions throughout the program. Out of the 125 sessions, 98 are done with family, friends and clients booked on your own time, and in your practicum. The other 27 must be done in a supervised clinical setting. Supervisors are instructors in the program and give you immediate guidance, feedback and support as you learn this modality. Clinical sites in a variety of community health units provide a safe learning environment and ongoing practical feedback for you as you move through the levels of the program.
- Standardized documentation data sheets: In this program you will use Langara College CST documentation data sheets. Our documentation sheets make it easy to complete your client intake assessment and treatment sessions. It is important for practitioners to standardize documentation to maintain professionalism through consistency and accuracy.
- Self-care requirement within the program: You must have five CST sessions from professional practitioners throughout the program to provide wellness support for yourself. In addition you must have treatments from four other practitioners of differing modalities. Having treatments from practitioners of other modalities is beneficial so that you learn which modalities work best for your own health care regime. As well, these self-care requirements will help you build a referral base within your own community for future clients, ensuring that your referrals are based on personal knowledge and experience.
- A take-home test to consolidate your knowledge: With the completion of module three, you will be given a take home test which is handed in before beginning module four. This insures that you are well prepared for your upcoming practicum.
- Case study reports: You will work with a client for 5-7 sessions and compare your client’s initial physical assessment with a final CST evaluation. You will develop critical thinking skills as you evaluate your treatment sessions. One case study is presented in class and discussed in the last module so other students can learn from your experience.
- A student practicum: You will design your practicum experience in an area of interest with the help of a practicum supervisor. You will work as an independent CST practitioner, providing 50 treatment sessions. The practicum supervisor is available for consultation and ongoing support as needed.
